Born on January 5, 1942 in Catherine, West Virginia, he was the son of the late James and Evaugh A. (Asbury) Mays. He was educated in schools in West Virginia and received his Associate Degree in CAD Design from Gateway Technical Institute.
In 1960, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and honorably served our country until his retirement in 1973.
On December 9, 1974, he was united in marriage to Patricia Gascoinge. They were blessed with almost 41 years of marriage.
Jim was employed as a spot welder with AMC for many years.
In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, motorcycles and stock cars. Later in life, Jim enjoyed gambling, watching the Green Bay Packers and spending time with his grandchildren. Jim was an avid reader and could be found reading a book just about everywhere.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Cheryl (Shannon) Haight and Emily Mays; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He is further survived by his two brothers, Raymond (Laura) Mays and John (Linda) Mays and two sisters, Nellie and Sue Mays.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, James Mays, Jr.; a daughter, Cora Lee and a grandson, Stephen Lee (Mays) Sharrard. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Duward J. Mays and two sisters, Dorothy Burnhardt and Bertha M. Brandow.
Service Date December 1, 2015
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Piasecki-Althaus Funeral. Interment with full military honors will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
