Show Obituaries Show Guestbook Show Photos QR Code PrintHelen B. “Bernie” Johnson, age 92 of Kenosha, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Magnolia’s Assisted Living.
Born on December 21, 1925 in Sunbury, IL, Bernie came to Kenosha at a young age. She was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Scott) Nolan. She attended local schools and graduated from Kenosha High School.
She married Ellis Johnson in 1946 and they were together for almost 67 years until he passed away in 2013.
In her younger days she was a bookkeeper for Kenosha Business Service. After raising her children, Bernie later worked at Sears. She then became a real estate broker for 20 years, retiring from Bear Realty in January 1996.
Bernie and her husband took frequent trips, but especially enjoyed a trip to Ireland where she had distant relatives. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, enjoyed playing bridge and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of St Thomas Catholic Church, active with the choir, the Catholic Women’s Club, St Therese Catholic Church and a former member of the National Realtors Association.
She is survived by her two sons, Daniel (Sue) of Green Valley, AZ and Randal of Kenosha and a daughter, Judy (Ken) Specht of Kenosha; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Don) Erickson, Adam (Holly) Johnson, Joshua Kaye and Kiersten Kaye and great grandchildren, Natalie and Tiffanie Erickson and Colton Johnson.
In addition to her parents, and husband, Ellis, she was preceded in death by her brother, Emmett Nolan and her sister, Donna Raffin.

Service Date June 30, 2018
Funeral Services honoring Bernie’s life will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 2020 91st Street. Entombment will be held in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
