George Nickolas Engelmann, age 84 of Kenosha, died at his home on Monday, February 9, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
A lifelong resident of Somers, he was born on February 11, 1930 and was the son of the late George Nickolas and Barbara (Lang) Engelmann, Sr. He attended St. George Grade School, and was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School. George also attended the pre-med program with U.W.-Madison.
From May 7, 1951 until his honorable discharge on April 8, 1953, George proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
On September 21, 1957 at St. George Catholic Church he was married to Sharon Edwards. She preceded him in death on July 16, 2011.
For 44 years, George was employed with Anaconda American Brass Company as a Tool and Die Maker. He worked part time with Van’s Bottled Gas.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, V.F.W. Junker Ball Post #1865, American Legion Paul Herrick Post #21, Kenosha Moose Lodge #286, P.L.A.V. James Smelcer Post #34 and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge #34.
George enjoyed fishing, hunting, swimming, bowling, and vegetable gardening. Many laughs and unforgettable memories were made during the family’s friendly tomato competition. George was a talented home builder. He built the family cabin up north. After high school, he took a trip across America in a Model T, and traveled numerous times to Jamaica.
He is survived by his three daughters, Charlotte (Don) Gottschalk or Racine, Mary (Mickey) Norris of Somers and Georgianna “Jana” (Solomon “Joby”) Counterman of Somers; six grandchildren, George (Michelle) Counterman, Krystal (Jon) Jecevicus, Nickolas (Ashly) Counterman, Benjamin (Mallory Finnigan) Counterman, Natalie (Ryan) Braat and Melissa Norris; and ten great grandchildren.
He is further survived by his goddaughter/niece, Debra Boyle; his sister-in-law, Glynnda Tonkin; many loving nieces and nephews; and his special canine companions, Tootsie and Sassy.
In addition to his parents and wife, Sharon, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Bossingham and Susan Predny; his grandson, Timothy Norris; and his special nephew, Patrick J. Boyle.
Service Date February 13, 2015
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 4817 7th Avenue. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at the church for the Mass. Entombment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Mausoleum.
