Born on October 7, 1937 in Little Fork, MN, he was the son of Stanley Heiberg, Sr. and Phylis (Hiller) Heiberg, and the stepson of Mary (Dennison) Heiberg.
Gary grew up and attended schools in New Lisbon, WI. He later joined the Naval Air Force and was stationed in New Orleans. Before leaving New Orleans, he owned his own shrimp boat. He moved to Kenosha in 1960. In 1961, he married J.C. Scott. Together, they had 3 children, Kim, Gary Jr., and Scott. His working career included American Motors, Arco Auto Carriers and the Kenosha Fire Department. While working as a fireman, he started Gary’s Camper Sales, and developed Prairie Lake Estates and Prairie Lake Apartments. After many years of service, he retired from the fire department.
He enjoyed his time as an active member of the Shriners and loved becoming a “snowbird” after purchasing a home in Florida. In his 70’s, Gary bought a ranch in Wautoma, WI, fulfilling yet another dream. It was there that he spent his final years enjoying his cattle and horses. Through all the years, all the jobs, and all of his accomplishments, he still maintained his love of family and friends- and treasured the time he spent with them.
Gary will be lovingly missed by his daughter, Kim Hemphill; his fiancé Pam Olson and family; his 8 grandchildren; his 3 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Pat (Clayton) Iverson, Glenn (Brenda) Heiberg, Diane Johnson as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, stepmother, and sons, Scott Heiberg and Gary “Tyke” Heiberg, Jr., Gary was preceded in death by his 2nd wife, LuAnn (Anderson) Heiberg; his siblings, Stanley “Jack” Heiberg, Jr., and Kathleen Grass.
