He was born in Kenosha on January 1, 1929, the son of the late Robert and Ann (Frederick) Girsh. Fred attended local schools and was a 1947 graduate of Mary D. Bradford.
He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.
In 1951, Fred met Carole Janda on a blind date and married on October 18, 1952. Their marriage was blessed with 65 wonderful years and four children. Sadly Carole passed away on November 17, 2017.
Fred was first employed with the Lockwood Oil Company; then he co-founded Gabron and Girsh Oil Company. Later he worked with Schend-Pflug Associates and AirKem, where he was salesman of the year.
Carole and Fred joined St. Mary Catholic Church in 1955 and became very active in the parish. Carole and Fred volunteered at the Shalom Center, Volunteer Escort, Meals on Wheels and were Friendly Visitors.
Left to cherish Fred’s memory are his children: Robert (Allison) Girsh, Diane (Gary) Hodel and Mary Clare (Brian) Jensen; son in law, Dennis Whyte and his 7 grandchildren: Kristin, Melissa, Allison, (Linda), August, Clare (Mary Clare), Leo and Andy (Diane); his 3 great grandchildren, Olive, Ewan (Allison) and Sydney (Kristin); his sister, Dorothy Olson; niece, JoAnn and nephew, James Olson and his family.
Along with his parents and wife, Carole, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Girsh-Whyte.
Service Date June 18, 2018
Funeral Services honoring Fred’s life will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, on the corner of 39th Avenue and 74th Street. A time of sharing will proceed Mass starting at 12:20 p.m. Interment will follow in St. George Cemetery.
