Show Obituaries Show Guestbook Show Photos QR Code PrintFarrie L. (nee: Surry) Ates, age 89 of Kenosha, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Grande Prairie Health and Rehab Center.
Born in Montrose, GA on October 28, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Leavon (Johnson) Surry. In her early adult years, Farrie moved from Georgia to North Chicago, IL. She later moved to Kenosha.
For 32 years, Farrie was employed at the Holiday Inn in the housekeeping department.
Farrie was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was a board member of their women’s auxiliary. She was currently attending New Brighter Day Baptist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star while living in Georgia.
She was an avid vegetable gardener, enjoyed fishing and singing.
Farrie is survived by her three children, Maurio, Gaelen and Sonji Ates; eight grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, George Ates; five brothers, George, Eugene, Hershel Lee, King David and Roosevelt Surry; and her six sisters, Christine Parker, Ilean Bowman, Lizzie Mae Surry, Lillie Mae Butler, Lucinda Peagues and Lennie Williams.
Service Date March 18, 2017
Home Going Services honoring Farrie’s life will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at New Brighter Day Baptist Church, 1225-25th Avenue. Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
