Eva A. Tutlewski, age 97, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019 .
Eva always had a passion for travel. She never tired of it. Retirement opened new doors for her. During one of her travels with her husband Rudy Tutlewski Jr. , they fell in love with the country of Spain, one village in particular, La Carihuela. There is where they decided to purchase a condo which was only minutes by foot away from the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. Each year they would look forward to a 5-6 month stay in their beloved village. Since Eva was Hispanic and Spanish being her first language, they were very much at home in their new surroundings.
She was born on May 26, 1922 in La Jara, CO,. She was the daughter of the late Cirillo and Virginia (Atencio) Torres. Eva was educated in Center, CO and continued her education at the University of Denver, (Daniels Business College) Denver, CO.
Eva loved music and dancing! On February 14, 1943, at a USO Valentine’s Day dance in Denver, Eva met Rudy Tutlewski .
Three months later on May 4, 1943 they were united in marriage. She and Rudy later moved to Kenosha, WI, his hometown. Together their mutual love for music endured and they continued their dancing for decades to come.
In the very early 1940’s, Eva was on the Oppenheimer Clearance Team – The Manhattan Project for The United States Department of Defense at the Sandia Base in Albuquerque, NM. Her job was to do background checks on prospective candidates for the project.
Once she moved to Kenosha she was employed as a receptionist at the Elks Club (presently The Stella Hotel) and later employed in the offices of AMC/Chrysler Corporation. She retired in the mid 1980’s.
She was a wonderfully loving mother, wife, and grandmother. She often took her grandchildren along to Spain to experience the culture which she loved so much. Eva was always quick to help out anyone in need family or strangers. She was a devout Catholic woman a former member of St. Marks the Evangelist Catholic Church and the St. Marks Christian Mothers Association.
Eva is survived by her children, Raymond Tutlewski and Kathy DiCello; five grandchildren, Dion DiCello, Dana “Dominic” (Diana) DiCello , Brandi (Quinton) Wheeler, Jeffery Tutlewski, and Teresa Tutlewski, four great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2000, and eleven brothers and sisters
Service Date December 10, 2019
Funeral Services honoring Eva’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 5804 Sheridan Road, Kenosha, WI. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at the church for the Mass.
