Elfriede A. Schmidtke, age 91, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away at the Hospice House on December 20, 2014.
Born on May 17, 1923, in Kassel, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Elizabeth (Krug) Knabe. Raised and educated in Germany, she came to the U.S. and Kenosha on April 13, 1954.
On February 9, 1946, Elfriede was united in marriage to Alfred “Fritz” Schmidtke. They were blessed with two children and 68 years of marriage until Fritz’s death on November 3, 2014.
She was a seamstress while in Germany. In Kenosha she worked at Werner’s Laundry and Rosseli’s Dry Cleaning. Most importantly she was a homemaker for her family.
Frieda was a member of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She will be deeply missed by her two sons, Helmut (Victoria) and Harold Schmidtke; four grandchildren, Kyle, Kara, Kate, and Fritz Schmidtke and two great grandchildren, Holden Estep and Kyra Schmidtke.
In addition to her parents and husband, Frieda was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Service Date December 27, 2014
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5038 19th Avenue. Entombment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
