Born on October 9, 1944 in Dayton, TN; she was the daughter of the late Homer and Daisy (Clark) Wilkey.
Edith graduated from Harper Creek High School in Battle Creek, MI, class of 1962.
On November 24, 1962 in Hernando, MS; she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Hobert R. “Joe” Layne. They moved from Illinois to Kenosha in 1972 and were blessed with 51 years of marriage.
Edith worked for several years as an executive secretary for Lifetime Foam in River Grove, IL, before becoming a homemaker for her family. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren; loving them was her passion and greatest accomplishment.
Edith was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 92 where she had served as a Past Worthy Matron. Her friends and family will all miss her keen sense of humor.
Edith will be missed by her husband, Joe; her sons, Jeffrey (Trina) Layne and Jason (Clerrisa) Layne and her five grandchildren, Austin, Logan, Brandon, Emma and Ethan Layne. She is further survived by her sisters, Betty Farrington, Mary Helen (Grover) Honeycutt, Nell (Merle) Welcher and Charolette (Howard) Norton and many loving nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Edith was preceded in death by a sister, Jennie Ruth and a brother, Carl Wilkey and a brother in law, Leo Farrington.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
