Born in Wilpen, PA, on March 29, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Nazzarino and Irene (Armfield) Virgili. Edith moved to Racine with her family at the age of 9 and attended Gilbert Knapp Elementary and Franklin Jr. High. She then moved to Kenosha as a young woman.
Edith was married on December 8, 1945, in Chicago, to Carl F. Acerbi, Sr. Carl passed away on June 1, 1993.
She was a home maker for her family and later employed as a head cook for Carthage College for 30 years.
A member of St. James Catholic Church, she enjoyed crafts, knitting, crocheting and gardening.
She is survived by her children, Thomas and Gigi Acerbi; her step-children, Carl (Barbara) Acerbi, Jr., Robert (Sharon) Acerbi and Dolores Sommers; a sister, Clair; a daughter-in-law, Elena; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Edith was preceded in death by her step-son Peter; brothers, Alfred, Ernest, George, and Ned Virgili, as well as her sister, Ellen Bilello.
Service Date January 23, 2017
A Funeral Service honoring Edith’s life will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home, 3720-39th Ave., Kenosha, WI. Interment will follow in St. George Cemetery.
