Edith was born in Kenosha on May 27, 1924 to Leonardo and Assunta (Junio) Gentile.
In 1943, while attending the festival at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Edith met the love of her life, Ernest J. Virgili. Edith and Ernie were married on December 13, 1944 and enjoyed 68 wonderful years together until his death in December of 2012.
Edith retired from the American Motors Corporation in 1975 after 30 years of employment.
Edith devoted her entire life to her family. She loved spending time with her brothers and sisters and lived vicariously through her many nieces and nephews, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Edith enjoyed knitting, cooking for her family, and spending time with her friends at Beech Pointe senior apartments. She was known for her friendly smile and kindhearted personality.
She will be deeply missed by her son, Ernest (Susan) Virgili, Jr.; two grandsons, Frank and Ernest M. (Erica) Virgili; three great grandchildren, Elliana, Ernie and Enzo; her brother, Aldo Gentile; her sisters-in-law, Shirley Gentile, Donna Virgili, Edith Virgili and Clarice Gunderson, and brother-in-law, Frank DeMarino.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Alfred and Anthony Gentile; and two sisters, Helen Fani and MaryAnn DeMarino.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and volunteers of Hospice Alliance, Inc. for the exceptional care they provided.
Service Date July 16, 2015
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home, 3720 39th Avenue. Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
