With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dr. James A. Nordstrom, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the veterinary community. Born on February 28, 1939, in Iowa, James peacefully departed from this world on September 6, 2024, at his home in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
James earned his D.V.M. from the University of Minnesota before proudly serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army, where he cared for sentry dogs that accompanied soldiers in their duties. His devotion to animal care became a lifelong calling that extended far beyond his military years. In 1966, he joined Kenosha Animal Hospital, where he dedicated his career to the wellbeing of both small and large animals, becoming a practicing partner and guiding the hospital’s growth for decades. James was a steadfast advocate for animal welfare within the Kenosha community, and his compassionate spirit lives on in the lives he touched—both human and animal alike. Known for his skill and integrity, he was deeply respected by pet owners and animal organizations who valued his gentle, caring approach.
Outside of his veterinary practice, James cherished time spent in nature. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating, with special appreciation for the beauty of Lake Michigan. He was a proud member of the Kenosha Sportfishing and Conservation Association and Kenosha Rotary Club. He was also a baseball and basketball fan and loyal supporter of the Green Bay Packers.
James is survived by his devoted wife, Teresa Nordstrom; his loving daughter, Angela Thomey; and his grandchildren, Nicholas and Michael Thomey. James was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marie Nordstrom; his brother, Paul Nordstrom Jr.; and his sister, Mary Ann (Nordstrom) Scoggins.
May the memory of James be a guiding light for all who mourn his loss. His kindness and humility earned him deep respect and affection, and his legacy continues in the many lives he touched through his work, friendships, and family.

Funeral services and ceremonies to honor the life of James will be held privately.
