Born on November 1, 1933 in Jeanette, PA., She was the daughter of the late Balis “Bucky” and Dorothy G. (Burkhart) Evans. Dorothy’s family moved to Hammond, IN. in 1941 and came to Kenosha in 1942 where she attended both Bradford and Wilmot High Schools.
On March 24, 1951 she married the late Joseph L. Landers. They later divorced. Dorothy married Jim Janis on February 4, 1969.
She was employed at Kenosha and St. Catherine’s Hospital and then at Chrysler where she retired after 36 years as the Supervisor of Employee Benefits. She also helped establish Kenosha Hospice Alliance and served as a board member and president.
Dorothy had a lifelong passion for learning. She attended many business and crafting courses through the years, most recently discovering a love of painting.
In 1992 Dorothy became a professional crafter with her business “Designs by Doty”. She and her husband traveled to craft shows selling her creations in both Wisconsin and Illinois. Her specialty was enhancing antiques. Throughout her life, Dorothy enjoyed mentoring children of all ages. She was a Cub Scout den mother, involved with Junior Achievement and in recent years with Missionettes at Journey Church. Her most enjoyable times though were spent with her children, grandchildren and church family. Dorothy became a member of First Assembly of God Church after the death of her son, David and was baptized with the Holy Spirit.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Jim; three children, Joseph L. Landers Jr., Gary A. Landers and Nancy J. Land; a step brother, Carter (Betsy) Schuld; four grandchildren, Courtney (David) Osters, Joseph Landers III, Alana Landers and Kyle Olson as well as two great grandchildren, Elijah and Samuel Osters. Dorothy is also survived by the Hirsch and Fink families whom she considered an extension of her own family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David on July 3, 2000; a sister, Joanne Rogich and her step-parents, Knute and Agnes Storlie.
Service Date November 28, 2015
A memorial service in celebration of Dorothy life will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 12 Noon at Journey Church, 10700 75th Street.
