Dawn J. Raabe, age 62 of Pleasant Prairie, died on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Hospice Alliance, Hospice House after a long battle with cancer.
Born on September 25, 1955 in Milwaukee, she was the daughter of the late George F. and Jean J. (Ritger) Raabe, Jr. She was educated in the schools of Kenosha, graduating from Mary D. Bradford in 1973. Dawn graduated from Carthage College in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Science/ Sociology.
She started her career on August 22, 1977 as a social worker with the Kenosha County Department of Social Services. The next year the child protection team was founded in which she worked for eight years. Dawn then established the Woman’s Touch Painting Company and proudly sponsored local softball, volleyball and bowling teams that had many winning seasons.
She played on local softball teams for thirty years and officiated volleyball and softball for twenty five years. Dawn was a member of the Ellis Island Foundation who refurbished the Statue of Liberty. She was a “seven gallon” donor at the Wisconsin Blood Center, donating from 1978 to 1998. Her patriotism was demonstrated by accompanying her uncles Bill and Chuck Raabe on their honor flights and through her participation in Warrior Watch Riders. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she held a trustee position until her illness.
She is survived by her niece, Jennifer (Dale) Milkus; nephews Daniel and Michael Perkins; cousins in Denver and the extended Raabe family in Milwaukee.
Along with her parents, Dawn was preceded in death by her sister, Debby Downing and twin sisters in infancy.
Dawn’s relatives and friends wish to extend a special thank you to Dr. David Knight, the “girls” at the cancer center and the wonderful nurses at Hospice Alliance, Inc. for their compassionate care.
Service Date August 20, 2018
Funeral services honoring Dawn’s life will be held on Monday, August 20th, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4311 104th Street, Pleasant Prairie. Private interment will be held in St. George Cemetery.
