She was educated in Kenosha schools attending St. James Elementary, Lincoln Jr. High, and graduating from Kenosha High School, Class of 1945.
On October 12, 1957, she married Donald Thomey, at St. James Catholic Church. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage, and they were the parents of two children, Pat Thomey of Germantown WI and Tom (Donna) Thomey of Libertyville IL. Connie is survived by seven grandchildren, Jeff, Ryan, Collin, Katherine, Elizabeth, Nicholas, and Krystin. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Austin and Olivia and numerous nieces and nephews.
Connie was the original working woman and Mom. She worked at the Jeanette Shop and waitressed at the Keyhole Club for 8 years, where she met Don, her future husband. Connie then went on to a 22-year career at Jockey International (Coopers) where she started in the factory and worked her way up into an office position. She finished her career at the Barbershop Singing Quartets of America where she served as an accountant for 20 years. All this while balancing homemaking, kid’s activities, and even the occasional neighborhood crusade.
Retirement did not slow Connie down one bit. She was the bookkeeper for Saint Catherine’s Hospital Gift Shop, an active member of the Kenosha and Racine Catholic Woman’s Club and she served as Treasurer and Board member for many years for the Kenosha Chapter. One of her favorite activities was her Senior Aquacise Club. She always had her swimming buoys ready in case there was a pool or lake nearby. Connie reluctantly gave up swimming a few years ago, but the friendship and camaraderie of her swimming club remained.
Connie also enjoyed going to plays, movies, anything musical, playing cards, and the occasional trip to the casino. Her favorite pastime, above all others, was anything having to do with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. No matter what it was, sporting events, concerts, milestone celebrations, she was all in and ready to go.
Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her siblings, Mary Bolton, Eileen Petitclaire, Francis Rompesky, Jean Beyers, and Grace Dosemagen; and daughter in-law Pamela (Pat Thomey).
Connie’s family wants to thank the amazing team at Hospice Alliance for their generous compassion.
