Show Obituaries Show Guestbook Show Photos QR Code PrintCarol Ann Schaufel passed away in Kenosha, WI on Saturday, July 13, 2024. Born in Kenosha, WI on January 15, 1947 to Ken and Shirley Schaufel. Carol defied physical challenges to achieve great accomplishments throughout her life. Despite her hurdles, she pursued her education relentlessly, ultimately earning a Master’s Degree in 1977 from UW-Milwaukee, graduating Summa Cum Laude. An accomplished author, Carol wrote her autobiography titled ‘By the Grace of God and You: An Autobiography: A Chair Does Not A Person Make’, sharing her inspiring journey with the world.
Throughout her career as a Math School Teacher, DVR Counselor, and Advisor to the State Governor, Carol displayed unwavering dedication to her profession and clients. She was a passionate activist and a member of numerous organizations, including Easter Seals, ABLE, MDA, and the Wisconsin State Rehabilitation Counsel.
Carol’s adventurous spirit led her to travel extensively, exploring 39 states and 10 countries, enriching her life with diverse experiences. Her commitment to service and advocacy for others earned her recognition as the ‘1981 Kenosha Person of the Year’.
Survived by her sons, Gavino and Steven Romero; her grandchildren, Alicia, Evelyce and Gavino Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Vera, Xyaura and Anuel; her loving sister, Susan (Bob) Vanbendegom; her nephews, Kenneth and David VanBendegom; her niece, Melinda Inhof and her fiancé, Armando Olivares. Carol leaves behind a legacy of resilience, compassion, and a fervent belief in striving for one’s best. A true inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her, Carol’s heartfelt message, “Be all you can be!” continues to resonate.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Shirley Schaufel.

Funeral services honoring Carol’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024 at the Piasecki Funeral Home.
Private interment will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
A visitation for Carol will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
