Born on April 25, 1926 in Barnerville, NY, he was the son of the late Frederick and Mabel (Kniskern) Stanton.
He attended local schools in Barnerville. Carlton joined the US Navy in May 1944 and served for 25 months. Upon leaving military service, he traveled to Chicago to start a 4-year course in retail management. In March 1950, he was assigned to a variety store in Centerville, Iowa.
While working in Centerville, he met Dorthy Houser. On September 16, 1951, they were united in marriage. Their union was blessed with 3 daughters and 1 son.
Carlton spent 30 years with the Ben Franklin Franchise Division before retiring in 1989.
Carlton was a dedicated husband and father. In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed volunteering, golfing, traveling, gardening, and loafing.
He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church.
Carlton is survived by his children, Deborah (Steve) Nelson, Kathryn (Paul) Mac Gillis, Stephen (Linda) Stanton and Karen (Dwayne) Eastman; his sister, Virginia “Ginnie” Fernandez; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one on the way.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Dorthy as well as his eleven brothers and sisters.
Carlton’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Hospice Alliance, Brookside Care Center, and the many fellow veterans and friends who visited him.

SERVICE LOCATION Sunset Ridge Memorial Park
Funeral services with full military honors for Carlton will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park Chapel.
Private inurnment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
A visitation for Carlton will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the cemetery.
