Bernice was born in Green Bay, WI on August 10, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Julia (Bouche) Baudhuin and grew up in Brussels, WI.
She graduated from High School in Brussels, WI and Door-Kewanee County Normal School; earning a B.A. from Dominican College, Racine in 1959.
She began her teaching career in 1940 at Washington Island in a one room schoolhouse teaching 1st through 8th grade. Bernice educated many as she taught 1st through 8th grades at Bristol Consolidated School, 1st and 2nd grade at Victory School in South Kenosha; 2nd grade at Elmwood School in Zion, IL and 2nd grade for 15 years at Kenosha Unified-McKinley Elementary; retiring in 1981.
On August 13, 1941, she married Dean E. Hansen and they made Kenosha their home in 1942. They were blessed with almost 60 years together before he passed away on March 24, 2001.
Bernice was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the AAUW, Retired Teachers, Catholic Woman’s Club, Women of the Moose Chapter #51, Danish Sisterhood Lodge #20, and a life member of the Kenosha Yacht Club.
Bernice is survived by her children, Sandie Horton, Bonnie (Robert) Schultz and Cheryl (Edward) Jankowski; her 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Cassie) Siegal, Scott (Patti) Siegal, Debbie Jankowski-Johnson, Tracy (Rich) Beltoya and Joey (Jill) Jankowski; ten great grandchildren;and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bernice was preceded in death by her sister, Bertine Gerondale, and a brother, Bernard Baudhuin.
Bernice’s family would like to extend their special thanks to her caregivers, Marlinda, Shirley, Ron, and Donna as well as the entire staff at Brookside Care Center.

Service Date July 2, 2014
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon at St. Mary Catholic Church, 7400 39th Ave. Private Interment will take place in All Saints Cemetery.
