I had both the wonderful honor and privilege of knowing Barbara for only a year as one of her care givers. But she was not just my job. She became a huge part of my life, heart and family. Because of her I fell back in love with classic westerns like Bonanza, Gunsmoke and Rifleman. She could watch those shows all day every day... and night. Perry Mason was her favorite. I forgot how great those shows were. Even at 80 her thirst for knowledge was never ending. She was always asking questions and at the same time she in her own way was always teaching me things also. Like cottage cheese is good with pepper and not just with fruit. With joy I have to admit it is because of her that I'm on a new path in my life. I was inspired at 50 to go back to college to become a social worker. Every single day she would tell me I should've been a doctor or that I was wasting my smarts. She told me I was kind and had compassion and that she looked forward to seeing me. That meant a lot to me. It struck a deep cord in my heart and I said okay. I didn't know then that it would be one of our last REAL heart to heart talks. When I sat with her on Friday I told her I was back in school and she gave me her classic fist bump. Man I will miss that. Idon't really know how it happened but she became very special to me and I'm missing her a lot. Rest in peace my dear sweet friend. You are finally no longer in pain. You can share that wonderful laugh and beautiful smile with everyone there in Heaven. Give all those angels a fist bump. Thank you Barbara. I love you Castleman !
