Born in Kenosha on January 21, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Arthur R. and Christine (Sinnicki) Amo.
On September 17, 1955 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Kenosha, she was married to Eugene K. “Smokey” Schend. After 37 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on June 29, 1993.
Arlene was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and had served as a Cub Scout Den Mother at St. Mary’s when her children were young. She was a member of the Women’s Monday Night Bowling League at the Eagles Club for many years.
She enjoyed the time she spent making her yard beautiful with her flower gardens, working with ceramics and traveling.
Arlene is survived by her five children, Valerie A. Schend, Eugene A. (Cory Emery) Schend, Brian K. Schend, Beth Ann (Craig) Simpkins and Randall J. “Randy” Schend, and her granddaughter, Julianne E. Simpkins. She is further survived by her two sisters, Betty Griffin and Nancy Amo, as well as her many loving nieces and nephew.
In addition to her parents and husband, Smokey, she was preceded in death by a son, Christopher J. Schend.
Arlene’s children would like to thank their mom’s aids, nurses, and the entire staff at Brookside Care Center for the care they gave her. “You have the toughest job in the world, yet you do it with love, kindness, and dignity.”
