Born in Osage, Iowa on May 26, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Hazel (Pierce) Messerlie. In 1950, she graduated from St. Joseph Mercy College of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, and had a 44-year career as a registered nurse at St. Catherine’s Hospital, and later at Grande Prairie Health and Rehabilitation Center, both of Kenosha.
Anne blazed her own trail and truly lived life to the fullest. In 1962, she was one of Kenosha’s first females to earn her pilot’s license. Never one to miss an opportunity to travel, she enjoyed the elegance of tea rooms, and the excitement of Las Vegas, which she visited 26 times. She traveled extensively stateside and also to Japan, Ireland, England, and Italy. She loved opera and theater and often enjoyed dinner and performances in Milwaukee, Chicago, and Santa Fe, NM. When at home, she was an avid reader, was quick to complete puzzles, and enjoyed playing the piano. She meticulously remembered special occasions with cards and she never forgot a birthday with a homemade cake.
She is survived by her children, Pat (Jerry) Rompesky, John Twigg, and Tom (Dina) Twigg; grandchildren, Melissa (Mitchell) Bills, Jeremy (Sarah) Rompesky, Gregg Twigg, Kelsey Twigg, and Keira Twigg; and great-grandchildren, Archer Bills, Rylan Rompesky, and Ethan Rompesky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Twigg; her son, Michael Twigg; and her brothers, Jim and Frank Messerlie.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Joe Garretto for his exceptional care and compassion.
