Born on February 4, 1934, in Waukegan, IL, Andy made his life in Kenosha, WI, with Marlene, his wife of over 60 years. He served his country as a proud Army veteran, later dedicating himself to a career in law enforcement as a police officer and detective and eventually as security director at Commonwealth Edison.
Andy’s love for his family was unparalleled. He took great joy in spending time with his wife, Marlene Torrez, daughters, Amy (Brian) Sanderson, Evelyn Torrez, and Melissa Torrez; grandchildren, Dream Heilberger and Audrey Heilberger, Rachel (Cameron) Sanderson-Graff, Glenna Sanderson and Jack Sanderson and meeting his great-grandchild, Sebastian Sanderson-Graff. He was always by Marlene’s side. Family and friends agree, that his humor and kindness made him fun to be with. Andy will be remembered with fondness, not many got by him without some witty comment that made them laugh.
Andy was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. Good times were had attending many Cub games at Wrigley Field and Busch Stadium; he and his brother even attended Game 3 of the 2005 World Series together. Some other favorite memories included fishing up north and playing in bowling tournaments. He enjoyed reading mystery novels and spent hours at the library. He was passionate about music, often singing along to his favorite tunes. He took pride in his bar-b-que and grilling; summer escapes with friends and family at area lakes and up north were events he relished.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Mariano Torrez.
Andy’s love of family, kindness, wisdom, and humor will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
