He was born on April 21, 1948, in Jackson, TN to the late Ed Nolan and Everdean (Draper) Owens. He later moved to Chicago, Milwaukee and settled in Kenosha.
Alan and Margie shared 41 wonderful years together.
Alan was a shipping and receiving clerk for American/Chrysler Motors until his retirement. He was the owner and operator of Handyman Plus II, giving many a second opportunity for work and life. Alan was a strong supporter of the Democratic Party and Local 72 UAW.
He grew up in and was a member of Church of Christ.
Alan was a super fanatic fan of the Chicago Bears, Milwaukee Bucks and the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved his roses, flower and vegetable gardens – his lawn and garden stopped people in their tracks. He was honored to help people with their gardens. He loved to fish, and caught a Mahi Mahi that fed an entire wedding party at Arlan and Ingrid’s wedding while in Mexico…and that is no fisherman’s tale.
He was affectionately known as the Mayor of 19th Avenue. Alan truly loved his family and shared with others the importance of loving his fellow brothers and sisters. He loved providing for his grandkids and attended all of their events. They affectionately called him “Grandpa Central.”
Alan will be missed by his loving wife, Margie; his children, Alan D. Owens, of Jackson TN, Alvin D. Owens, of Kenosha, WI, Arlan D. (Ingrid) Owens of Kenosha, WI, Lakisha M. Brantley-Roberts (Andre) of Mesquite TX, Deedgra B. Sly-Lundasi (Thomas) of Oak Creek, WI, Reynaldo T. Brantley (Josie) of Racine, WI, Adrienne “Stuff” Brown (Dontee’) of Tinley Park, IL, Nokihomis T. Willis (Tracy) of Nashville, TN and Kimani J. Winfield of Milwaukee, WI; his sister, Joyce Owens of Queens, NY; and his best buddies, Grand Taylor a.k.a “Cool Breeze” and Gordon Peters; 24 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and a host of special nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his son, Cedric R. Brantley-Owens; his brothers, Billy Owens and Clarence Owens and his sisters, Clara Gray and Barbara Donnell.
